Plant conservation and research are a significant part of the botanic Gardens, with our rare plant propagation area and herbarium showcasing our commitment to the preservation of plants for future generations.

Our Koori walk is a popular school activity. Our guides share the knowledge of the edible, medicinal and other uses of the plants of our region and how thousands of generations of indigenous people survived and thrived without modern technology.

The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens has developed several educational tours for schools, with specific curriculum-based outcomes. Our knowledgeable guides deliver interesting and interactive activities designed to make learning as fun and ‘hands-on’ as possible. There are pre- and post- visit learning guides on our website to enable students and teachers to get the most out of their visit to the Botanic Gardens.
